Almost all adults in Scouting, including uniformed leaders, are volunteers. They give their time for free. But they are trained volunteers – the Scout Association has a thorough training programme that all Leaders undertake. All leaders have to undergo a full DBS check, supply personal references and be approved by an Adult Appointments Committee before their first appointment. Appointments are also subject to regular review and renewal and all leaders must also hold a valid first aid certificate.
Each section has its own leadership team and runs its own programme but there are close links between the sections. The Group Lead Volunteer, Robert, provides support for all the sections. There are currently two leaders in the cub section but they could always do with more adult help.
Anne Prescott (Akela) is our Cub Scout Leader with her son, Robert Prescott, and also Ben Pritchard as assistant cub scout leaders – working together as a team they run the Cub Pack.
Anne has been a warranted leader for over 30 years and over 20 years of this has been with 1st Halton Scout Group. She started as a leader in Halton in the scout section and then became group scout leader for about 7 years. Anne helped set up and ran beaver section before becoming a cub leader in the group. She lives locally in the village with her family who are also involved with scouting.
Robert has moved up through cubs, scouts, explorers and now is the assistant cub leader with the group, he has also taken on the roll of Group Lead Volunteer looking after all sections within the group.
